Cristy Pennell’s appreciation for massage therapy

Cristy Pennell, LMT
Cristy Pennell’s appreciation for massage therapy began in 1999, when an inordinate amount of stress was causing debilitating headaches and sharp pains in her back that affected her sleep and even her breathing. A trip to a massage therapist left her amazed and grateful at the relief she received from her pain. She vowed receive regular massage and never let her body get so stressed out again.

Monthly massage sessions kept the headaches and back pain away. Cristy considered her massages a medical necessity from that time forward. Two migraines a month, once treated with prescription medication, disappeared. Cristy never got headaches while on regular massage treatments.

Since then, massage therapy has helped virtually all of her family members alleviate pain, heal injuries and relieve stress. Even her son was helped by massage therapy at six weeks of age! Cristy considered studying massage therapy then, but the responsibilities of a newborn made going to school impractical.

For her 40th birthday, Cristy decided to run a half-marathon and received massage every two weeks during the training. She achieved her goal of running the 13.1 mile race and decided to do it again. Next time, grueling schedules kept her from receiving regular massage as part of her training regimen. One week after the second race, Cristy injured her knee and required surgery. This gave Cristy a new appreciation for the value of massage therapy for athletes, having “with massage” and “without massage” training experiences.

After 20+ years in corporate America, it was time to make a change. This time, she was able to act on the calling to become a massage therapist herself. She excelled as a massage student and was invited to complete an advanced clinic internship as part of her training. Her respect and passion for the art of massage therapy was evident to her classmates and new clients.

It’s no surprise that Cristy’s passion lies in helping people combat pain such as headaches and the very real and potentially dangerous effects of stress. She is also honored to work with various area athletes as they train and recover from marathons, half marathons, cycling races and triathlons.

A massage from Cristy Pennell can be best summed up as thoughtful, thorough and therapeutic. She has the ability to find and treat trouble areas that clients didn’t even know they had. Her experience as a client and her passion for learning make Cristy a truly special massage therapist.
